John Spiers

Age: 36

Sex: male

Date: 29 Dec 1902

Place: Dudley

John Spiers was found in a dying condition on the road between Dudley and Tipton in the early morning of 29 December 1902.

He had been bleeding from a wound in the head and was bruised all over and died whilst being carried to his home.

The police said that they believed that he had been brutally murdered.

However, he was said to have been intoxicated when he had left Dudley the previous night and it was said that he had evidently fallen down several times and cut his head.

His inquest heard that the exposure together with constitutional disease from which he was suffering caused his death and the jury returned a verdict of 'Natural causes'.
